Weekend Project - Install Parler on iPhone
Now that the social network "Parler" is back online you may be wondering how to install it on your iPhone or iPad since, as of the time of this video, it is still unavailable in the Apple App store.
Unfortunately it's impractical to install apps on an iPhone outside the app store, so in this video we're going to work around that by creating a link to Parler's website on your iPhone's home screen. It won't be the official app, but through a combination of a link on the home screen and saved credentials in Safari, we can closely approximate the experience of installing the official app.
This process will be demonstrated on a stock iPhone 7 running running iOS 14.4. So let’s get started.
1. Open Safari and go to parler.com. I recommend typing the full address yourself in case Big Tech de-lists the site from their search engines in the future.
2. Tap the "share" button, which is the icon on the bottom center of the screen which looks like a square with an arrow pointing upwards
3. Scroll down and tap on "Add to Home Screen"
4. Tap "add." The link to Parler will appear on your home screen.
5. Tap on the "Settings" app
6. Scroll down and tap on "Passwords"
7. Locate the option "AutoFill Passwords" and tap on it to enable it
8. Return to the home screen and tap on the Parler link
9. Tap "Continue using the site Don't show again"
10. Tap "Log in"
11. Enter your username and password and tap "next"
12. When you successfully log in, Safari will offer to save your password. Tapping on "Save Password" will be more convenient, as you will not have to enter your credentials over and over again, and it will make the Parler link feel more like a native app.
13. That's all there is to it.
Thank you for watching.
