Weekend Project - Install Parler on Android
Now that the social network "Parler" is back online you may be wondering how to install it on your Android device since, at of the time of this video, it is still unavailable in the Google Play store.
This process is divided into three main steps:
1. Enable your device to install apps outside of the Google Play Store
2. Download the Parler app from Parler's website
3. Install the Parler app
Even though there are many different Android devices and versions out there, in this video we're going to cover the process of installing Parler using a stock Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Android 6. It's almost certain that your Android device is more up to date that mine. So let's get started.
1. Go to the Settings app of your device
2. Scroll down and tap on "Security"
3. Check the box next to "Unknown Sources" and tap OK on the screen that appears
4. Open a web browser on your device and go to parler.com. I recommend typing the full address yourself in case Big Tech delists the site from their search engines in the future.
5. Once at Parler's site, scroll down to the very bottom and tap the Android icon in the lower right corner of the page
6. Scroll to the middle of the page and tap the button labeled "download parler for android"
7. On the window that appears tap "Download."
8. Swipe down from the top of your device to see the progress of the download
9. When its finished, go to the Files app on your device and navigate to your Downloads folder
10. Locate the file called "parler-release.apk" and tap on it
11. Tap "Install"
Note it took 1 minute and 20 seconds to install for me, but that could be because my device is old.
12. When its finished, tap "Done"
13. Go to your home screen and locate the newly-installed Parler app.
14. As an optional step you can return to the security settings of your device and uncheck the "Unknown Sources" option in order to prevent malicious apps from installing themselves without your knowledge.
Thank you for watching.
